GULF SHORES, Ala. -- UAB's women's golf team improved by three strokes and maintained its ninth-place spot on the team leaderboard with a strong round on Tuesday at the 2014 Conference USA Championship.

The Blazers, who fired a team total of 307 (+19) in Tuesday's second round, will tee off at 9:10 a.m. CT Wednesday in the final 18 holes of play at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club. The ninth-place Blazers trail eighth-place Tulsa by four strokes, while Tulane maintains its spot atop the leaderboard with a two day total of 572 (-4).

"It has been refreshing this week to see our team play like they have," head coach Kim Wilcox said. "Coming into this tournament, we weren't sure about some of the new teams and we knew we had some tough competition, but I am pleased with how we have played."

Senior Caitlin Watts recorded eight pars to finish 1-over par over the front nine and completed the day with a 4-over par, 76, performance for the Blazers. The LaGrange, Ga., native currently stands in a tie for 27th on the individual leaderboard heading into the final round.

UAB junior golfer Margaret Yeh also turned in an impressive round of golf on Tuesday. Yeh tallied her best single-round total since the first tournament of the season with her 3-over par, 75, which moves her into a tie for 45th place.
