BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- UAB’s women’s golf team will make the short trek this week to the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club in Gulf Shores, Ala., for the 2014 Conference USA Championship.
The championship consists of 54 holes on a par 72, 6,145-yard course spanning three days – Monday through Wednesday -- with the winning team receiving an automatic berth into the NCAA Regionals. This is the fourth-straight year that the tournament has been hosted at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club.
UAB will open play at 7:30 a.m. CT Monday morning and will tee off at hole No. 10. Tulane, East Carolina and UTSA - the top-three seeds at this year's championship - will tee off from the first hole beginning at 8:40 a.m. CT. Defending champion Tulane enters the championship ranked 29th in the nation by Golfweek. The Green Wave boasts four student-athletes who finished among the top eight in the 2013 Championship.
The Blazers enter play this week well rested with their last tournament coming almost a month ago at the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate in Atlanta, Ga.
UAB is led by senior Caitlin Watts, who has totaled three top-25 finishes this season and has been the Blazers’ top performer in six of the team’s seven tournaments on the year.
