BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB women’s golf team will compete in the Samford Intercollegiate on April 8-9 at the Hoover Country Club in Hoover, Ala. This will be the Blazers final tune-up before the Conference USA Championship on April 22-24.
Participants will play 54 holes over two days, with 36 holes being played on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday, at the par-72 course totaling 6,271 yards. Play will begin with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. CT each day.
The 11-team field includes Alabama State, Jackson State, Jacksonville State, Lamar, Louisiana-Monroe, Samford, Tennessee Tech, UAB, University of Mobile, University of New Orleans (UNO) and West Florida.
In the lineup for the Blazers will be Caitlin Watts, Holly Robinson, Jessica Rouillard, Jaime Ritter and Amanda Richey.
Also competing in the tournament as individuals for UAB will be Margaret Yeh, Lindsey Gipson, Ana Martin and Kristin Lottman.
In their last tournament, the HBU Husky Invitational, the Blazers struggled in the first two rounds but fired a team score of 308 in the final round to finish in 10th place. Four Blazers finished in the 70s in the final round, with Watts and Robinson leading the way with rounds of three-over par 75.
This marks the second consecutive year that UAB will be playing in the Samford tournament. Last season, the Blazers finished in ninth place with a three-round total of 967. Watts fired three straight rounds in the 70s to finish in a tie for 11th
place at 229 (+13).
