WAYNESVILLE, N.C. – UAB women's golf finished play at the 2013 Great Smokies Intercollegiate on Tuesday as the squad shot 616 to finish in 10th place at the Waynesville Inn Golf Resort and Spa.
Host-school Western Carolina claimed the top spot at the two-day tournament, firing a six-under par 570. Samford came in second with a two-under par 574 for the day, while Mercer shot an even par 576 to round out the top three spots.
"I thought we played a lot better today," UAB head coach Kim Wilcox said. "The conditions were not favorable for us, but we fought past it, and I am proud of our team for improving its score on the second day."
Sophomore Jessica Rouillard once again led UAB on the final 18 holes, as she fired a team-best two-over par 74 for the day to finish No. 31 in the standings. Teammate Caitlin Watts improved her score on Tuesday with a three-over par 75 to tie for the 35th spot.
