SUGAR LAND, Texas ----- The UAB women’s golf team improved its score for the third consecutive round, firing a total of 308 on Tuesday to finish in 10th place at the Houston Baptist Husky Invitational.
Caitlin Watts and Holly Robinson led the Blazers with scores of three-over par 75 in Tuesday’s final round. Watts finished the tournament in a tie for 21st place with a three-day total of 233. After an opening round 85, Robinson finished the tournament with rounds of 74 and 75 to finish at 234.
Jessica Rouillard and Jaime Ritter each shot rounds of 79 to finish at 244 and 249, respectively. Margaret Yeh rounded out the scoring for UAB with a final round 83.
As a team, the Blazers finished in 10th place with a score of 960.
“They played a lot better today,” said UAB head coach Kim Wilcox. “Hopefully this good finish will give the girls some momentum going into the tournament at Samford next week.”
Sam Houston State shot back-to-back sub-300 rounds to finish in first place with a three-day total of 911. Lamar finished in second place with a score of 913 and Central Arkansas rounded out the top-three with a score of 932.
Central Arkansas’ Julia Roth took home medalist honors with a three-round total of four-over par 220. Western Texas’ Franzi Voellinger and Redlands’ Sarah Schober rounded out the top-three with scores of 223 and 224, respectively.
The women’s golf team returns to action April 8-9 when it competes in the Samford Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala.
