SUGAR LAND, Texas ----- The UAB women’s golf team sits in 12th place after the opening 36 holes of the HBU Husky Invitational. Caitlin Watts led the way for the Blazers with a score of 158 (+14) on day one.
Watts led the Blazers with rounds of 78 and 80 en route to a 14-over par 158 on the opening day of the tournament. She sits in 24th place. Holly Robinson is one stroke behind Watts after a score of 159. Robinson rebounded from an opening 18-hole score of 85 and finished the day with a two-over par 74.
Jessica Rouillard, who is coming off he best finish of the season at the UC Spring Invire, fired rounds of 84 and 81 for a first day total of 165. Jaime Ritter and Margaret Yeh rounded out the scoring for the Blazers with scores of 170 and 175, respectively.
As a team, the Blazers are in 12th place for the tournament with a score of 652.
Lamar University leads the overall team standings after an opening day 607. Lamar is seven-strokes clear of second place Sam Houston State (614) and 17-strokes ahead of Central Arkansas and host Houston Baptist, who are tied for third.
Central Arkansas’ Julia Roth leads the individual standings, firing a three-over par 147 on day one. Western Texas CC’s Franzi Voellinger and Lamar’s Ghni Ngo are tied for second place at 148.
The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes on Tuesday beginning at 8:30 a.m.
