HATTIESBURG, Miss. ----- The UAB women’s golf team finished in a tie for ninth place at the Lady Eagle Invitational hosted by Southern Mississippi on Tuesday with a team score of 331 (+43).
Caitlin Watts led the Blazers with a nine-over par 81 at the Par 72 Hattiesburg Country Club in Hattiesburg, Miss. Watts made six straight pars in the middle of her round to finish in a tie for 31st place.
Jaime Ritter and Jessica Rouillard each carded rounds of 83 to finish in a tie for 42nd place. Holly Robinson finished one stroke behind Ritter and Rouillard, with a 12-over par 84. Lindsey Gipson shot an 89 (+17) to round out the Blazers scoring.
“We got off to a rough start due to the wet course and the early cold temperatures,” said UAB head coach Kim Wilcox. “ We’re still working hard on our short game and did see some improvements in that area today.”
Memphis and Southern Miss each finished at 18-over par 306 to tie for first place. Troy rounded out the top three finishers with a 23-over par 311.
Memphis’ Alex Alang took home the top individual honor with an even-par 72. South Alabama’s Kristen Golightly and Southern Miss’ Brandi Rodriguez finished in a tie for second place at 73 (+1).
The 36-hole tournament was shortened to 18-holes after rain cancelled the first round on Monday.
The Blazers will return to action on March 22-24 at the University of Cincinnati Spring Invitational in Crystal River, Fla.
