NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Junior Leah Walker and freshman Lauren Douglas both earned Honorable Mention Academic All-American honors by the National Tenpin Coaches Association, announced on Wednesday.

"I'm very proud of our current athletes, Leah Walker and Lauren Douglas,” said head coach Michelle Crews. “Leah is now a three-time recipient of this award and Lauren is a freshmen who is earning this award for her first time. Both of these young ladies are our leaders in the classroom and our role models for school/bowling/time management skills. They both have amazing work ethic on and off the lanes and I couldn't better more honored to have them on our team."

To be honored, student-athletes had to achieve a minimum of a 3.4 grade point average during the recent academic year. In all 165 student-athletes from 35 schools were honored this year.

Walker is majoring in broadcasting film and has been a staple in UAB’s lineup all three seasons. She had a season-best finish of 33rd at the Wildcat Invitational after averaging a 170.

Douglas, a mathematics major, just concluded her first season as a member of the UAB bowling team. She bowled a collegiate career-best 223 at the Wildcat Invitational and finished a season-best 38th at the Aggie Masters Classic.
