MONTGOMERY, Ala. The UAB bowling team finished 2-2 on the second day of competition at the Hornet Classic.

The Blazers topped Louisiana Tech and Grambling State to remain in sixth place with a total pinfall of 7,779. Sam Houston State is still leading the tournament with 8,503.

UAB (8-16) was led by junior Jenna Mellott, who posted a career-best 187.0 average to finish 12th individually. Also in the top-20 for the Blazers was freshman Bailey James. James competed individually for the first time this weekend. She finished with a 184.0 average to take 17th.

Sunday will be the final day of the Hornet Classic and will feature bracket-style play to determine a winner. The Blazers are matched up with Louisiana Tech, who is just ahead in the standings with 7,854 total pinfall.

UAB will have a chance to move up in the standings and could finish as high as third. Action will start at 8:30 a.m.
