Bowling Concludes Play Music City Classic

Marissa Ferreira finished with an average pin fall of 193.8 on Saturday

SMYRNA, Tenn. ---- The UAB bowling team took part in the Music City Classic over the weekend hosted by Vanderbilt, finishing 20th out of 29 teams in Sunday's bracket play.

The Blazers started the tournament on Friday, posting a 2-4 record in the Quad Baker format.  UAB defeated Florida A&M 728-671 along with knocking off Monmouth, 798-722.

In individual play on Saturday, UAB placed two bowlers in the top 100 of the tournament. Marissa Ferreira finished 38th overall, with an average pin fall of 193.8 over six games.  Ferreira put down more than 200 pins in three of her six games, including a 222 score during her third contest.

Ali Long finished 90th, with a score of 173 per round, over the course of six games. Leah Walker (108th) and Jamie Cowden (111th) competed in five rounds each, averaging pin falls of 183.8 and 177.6, respectively.

In Sunday's bracket format, the Blazers fell in all three matches. UAB lost to Alabama State 4-0, Monmouth 4-3 and Delaware State 4-0 to finish 20th out of 29 teams in the event.
