SMYRNA, Tenn. – The UAB bowling team is currently in 22nd place after the first day of competition at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic.
The Blazers finished the day with a record of 1-5 in the four-game baker matches. UAB had a tough slate, with all six games coming against teams ranked in the top 20.
UAB earned its only win over No. 20 Adelphi in the second match of the day. In that game, the Blazers bowled three games over 200, including a high game of 244 in the fourth game. The team topped Adelphi by 165 pins after finishing with a total pinfall of 880 to 715.
The first match of the day was against No. 13 St. Francis Brooklyn. UAB finished with a total pinfall of 642, but fell just short of St. Francis Brooklyn’s 673. Against No. 10 St. Francis, the Blazers fell 859-772 after averaging 193 per game with a high of 218.
In the fourth match of the day, No. 17 North Carolina A&T took the win over UAB, 710-672. The Blazers averaged a 168 across the four games in that match. UAB then fell to No. 7 Sam Houston State, 685-643, and closed out the day with a loss to No. 3 Fairleigh Dickinson, 913-633.
UAB will compete in the second day of the Columbia 300 Music City Classic beginning at 8:30 a.m. with the six traditional team games.
