Bowling Places Ninth At UCM Invitational

Jamie Cowden qualified individually to compete in the USBC Sectionals next weekend

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. ---- The UAB bowling team finished in ninth place at the three-day Central Missouri Invitational.  The Blazers defeated Elmhurst in bracket play in their final round on Sunday.

The Blazers finished with an overall record of 3-8 in match play and in the Baker format, including an upset of eighth-ranked Sam Houston on Friday night.

The other two victories for UAB both came against Elmhurst, winning in match play 959-885 and in a Baker best-of-seven match, 997-840, in five rounds.

Individually, Jamie Cowden finished as UAB's top individual bowler, collecting an average pin fall of 194.5, ranking 19th at the tournament.

Jennafer Mellott finished 26th, with an average score of 190.2, while Marisa DiPonio claimed a per round average of 183.8, good for 33rd place.

Cowden and Ali Long will compete for the Blazers at the United State Bowling Congress Sectionals this Friday.  The duo will hit the lanes at the Smyrna Sectional, held in Smyrna, Tenn.
