Bowling Concludes First Day at Kat Klash

Blazers had a win over No. 7 Sam Houston State on first day.

HOUSTON, Texas The UAB bowling team sits in 13th place after the first day of the Kat Klash tournament in Houston, Texas.

The Blazers finished 2-4 on the first day of competition, but capped off the day with a win over No. 7 Sam Houston State. The team had a tough start as it was slated against three teams ranked in the top 20 in its first three games.

UAB closed out the day strong with wins over No. 7 Sam Houston State and Grambling State. The Blazers defeated Grambling State, 721-469, and carried the momentum into the final game to top Sam Houston State, 739-731.  

In the first game of the day, UAB fell to No. 6 Stephen F. Austin, 864-742. Then, the Blazers were matched up with No. 20 Alabama State who took the win, 789-670. Up next was No. 8 Vanderbilt. The Commodores edged UAB, 800-701 in the game. Then the Blazers fell to Tulane in a close game, 709-693.

UAB completed the day with a total pinfall of 4,266. The Blazers will be back in action on Saturday for the second day of the tournament.
