BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's basketball team returns from an eight-day break to host the Central Michigan Chippewas on Monday at 7 p.m. at Bartow Arena.
The Blazers and Chippewas have met twice previously, with each winning one contest. Last December, the Chippewas hosted the Blazers and captured a 96-72 win. The only other time the two teams played was in a 2002 neutral-site contest in Evanston, Ill., with UAB earning a 59-44 victory.
The Blazers are coming off an 84-60 win over Mississippi Valley State on Dec. 5. UAB is led by senior forward Tamika Dukes, averaging 12.5 points and 6.9 rebounds a game. Freshman guard Jala Harris also has been an all-around force for the Blazers, with 12.4 points, 4.5 boards and 3.6 assists a game.
After starting the season 0-5, the Chippewas have won their last two contests, including an 84-75 upset of 25th-ranked Louisville on Dec. 2. Central Michigan is coming off a 70-68 victory over Valparaiso on Dec. 5. Senior Britni Houghton leads the team in scoring with 16.7 points a game, while junior Kaihla Szunko is the leading rebounder with 9.7 boards a game.
