BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Off to its best start since the 2001-02 season, the UAB women’s basketball team returns to the court Friday and Saturday to participate in the Thanksgiving Classic on the Samford campus.
UAB kicks off the event on Friday at 2 p.m. CT against Tennessee State before clashing with Alabama State on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.
Head coach Audra Smith’s team is 4-1 on the year – the fastest start for the Blazers since coach Jeannie Milling’s team won four of its first five to begin the 2001-02 season.
The Blazers are led by senior guard Amber Jones and junior forward Karisma Chapman, who each average double-figuring scoring totals for the year. Jones paces UAB with 15.6 points per game, while Chapman averages 12 points per contest.
UAB enters the weekend after defeating Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 71-25, on Monday night. The 25 points scored by the Lions was the lowest total against a Blazer defense since UAB held South Alabama to 31 points in 1996.
