BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women's basketball team will make at least two television appearances during the 2012-13 campaign, according to an announcement by Conference USA officials.
Fox Sports will air the Blazers’ contest at C-USA foe UTEP on Jan. 20, with tip off scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.
The second game of the year currently slated for broadcast will be on Feb. 28 when UAB travels to East Carolina, with the game being carried by CBS Sports Network. Tip off for the Green and Gold’s final road contest is set for 6 p.m. CT.
After compiling a 19-11 (9-7 C-USA) record and third-place finish the league last year, UAB will have bring a new look this season, as the squad returns just three starters and welcomes eight newcomers to the squad.
The Blazers team features a pair of returning second-team All-Conference USA selections in senior guard Amber Jones and junior forward Karisma Chapman. Chapman, who was a C-USA All-Freshman Team selection a year earlier, also became the first UAB player ever named to the league’s All-Defensive Team last year.
It is the first time a Blazer team has returned multiple all-conference players from the previous year since 1995-96, when the team brought back two All-Great Midwest Conference players (Uvette Dabney and Mary Morning) for its first year of C-USA play.
The Blazers will open their 2012-13 campaign with two exhibition games in Bartow Arena, first hosting Brewton-Parker on Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. CT before welcoming UAH on Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. CT. UAB will begin regular season play on Nov. 9 with a home game against Austin Peay at Noon CT.
