“We are very excited to have Emily Hanley join our staff,” Norton said. “Emily was an outstanding player for us at Illinois State. She has all the ingredients to be a successful coach, having a second-to-none work ethic and tremendous people skills. With her experiences of being a former first team MVC player and coaching the last two years at the high school level, she will be a great addition to our staff.”
Hanley joins Norton’s staff after serving as the JV girls head coach and varsity assistant coach for the past two years at Bloomington High School. She had recently taken over as the varsity head coach for the spring/summer of 2014.
During her time with Bloomington, the team had an overall record of 34-14. Last season, she helped lead them to a 21-3 finish to improve from a 13-11 record in 2012-13.
Like the rest of Norton’s staff, Hanley played under Coach Norton during her time at Illinois State. She spent one season at Eastern Michigan before transferring to Illinois State where she played from 2008-11.
She was a three-time letterwinner with ISU and was named team captain as a senior. Hanley earned WNIT All-Tournament Team honors in 2011 and was also named to the Missouri Valley All-Conference First Team that year.
A Second-Team Missouri Valley Scholar Athlete, Hanley excelled in the classroom as she was selected to the 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-District Team. She was also named the Illinois State Health Education Student of the Year in 2011.
