BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Non-conference games against Florida State and Arizona, a Thanksgiving tournament trip to the west coast, along with an 18-game Confernce USA schedule highlight the 2014-15 UAB women's basketball schedule, Blazers' head coach Randy Norton announced Wednesday.

"We have a great non-conference schedule with a solid mix of home and away games built in," coach Norton said. "It gives us the opportunity to play teams from across the country and gain valuable experience before heading into conference play. We always look forward to competing in Conference USA, as it is one of the premier leagues in the country with outstanding coaches and players."

Along with an exhibition game against Truman State, the Blazers will play 11 non-conference games with five of those contests coming at home in Bartow Arena.

UAB opens the season Friday, Nov. 14 at Florida State. The Seminoles were a second-round NCAA tournament team in 2013-14, finishing with a 21-12 record.

The Blazers' home opener against Lipscomb on Wednesday, Nov. 19 will follow the season-opening game. The two teams squared off last year, with UAB taking the win. The team will then host Alcorn State on Saturday, Nov. 22.

On Tuesday, Nov. 25, Coach Norton and his team will begin a five-game road trip in Chicago, Ill. to play Loyola Chicago. The team will then head out to Los, Angeles, Calif. for its only in-season tournament at the Loyola Marymount Tournament, facing Loyola Marymount on Friday, Nov. 28 and either UC Irvine or Bowling Green the next day.

The Green and Gold return to Birmingham to play cross-town foe Samford in the second annual Red Mountain Rivalry game on Saturday, Dec. 6. UAB concludes the road stint at Arizona on Sunday, Dec. 14.

UAB will cap off the non-conference schedule at home with Arkansas Pine Bluff (Dec. 19), South Alabama (Dec. 21) and Richmond (Dec. 30).

The C-USA slate will begin at home for the Blazers on Sunday, Jan. 4 as they host reigning conference champion Middle Tennessee. The two teams met three times last season, with the Blue Raiders edging the Blazers each time.

The Blazers and Blue Raiders are scheduled to meet two times in 2014-15. UAB will play five conference teams two times, with one game at home and the other on the road. Along with MT, UAB will play home-and-homes with Florida Atlantic, FIU, Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss.

Other home conference games include Louisiana Tech (Jan. 15), Southern Miss (Jan. 17), UTEP (Jan. 29), UTSA (Jan. 31), North Texas (Feb. 12) and Rice (Feb. 14).

Conference road games for the 2014-15 season will feature trips to Florida Atlantic (Jan. 8), FIU (Jan. 10), Charlotte (Jan. 22), Old Dominion (Jan. 24), Louisiana Tech (Feb. 5), Southern Miss (Feb. 7), newcomer Western Kentucky (Feb. 19), Marshall (Feb. 21) and Middle Tennessee (Feb. 28).

UAB returns seven letterwinners, including six with starting experience, from last year's team that finished 16-15 overall and 7-9 in C-USA. The Blazers recorded their fifth-straight winning season, the longest streak in program history.

The 2014-15 season will conclude with the Conference USA Tournament, which will be hosted by UAB in Birmingham, Ala. on March 11-14.
