BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB senior Amber Jones and juniors Karisma Chapman and Ashley Grimes have been named Second Team All-Conference USA performers, while Chapman placed on the C-USA All-Defensive Team, the conference office announced on Sunday.

The three second-team performers represent the most in the league. Meanwhile, Chapman, a native of Calumet City, Ill., is one of five players on the C-USA All-Defensive Team.

The three Blazers represented on the annual list are UAB’s top scorers for the season. Chapman paces the squad with 13.3 points per game, while Jones adds 13.2 and Grimes averages 12.4 points per outing.

In her senior season, Jones has garnered several awards, including a Capital One All-Academic District 4 honor as well as a Conference USA All-Academic Team Selection. The 5-foot-7 guard is currently No. 10 on UAB’s all-time scoring list with 1,488 career points and is second all-time in games played for the Blazers, seeing action in 123 contests. The second-team selection is the second-straight for Jones.

Chapman has come on strong for the Blazers as of late, going over the 20-point total in three-straight games to close out the regular season. The 5-foot-11 forward leads the team in scoring (13.3 ppg) and boasts the 13th-best steal total in NCAA Division I with 3.3 takeaways per game. This is also Chapman’s second-straight second-team honor and first all-defensive team selection.

Rounding out UAB’s all-conference list is Ashley Grimes, who was a key contributor throughout the regular season in her first year with the Blazers. The Selma, Ala., native scored in double figures in 16 games and was named the C-USA Player of the Week following her 31-point performance against East Carolina on Feb. 10.

Jones, Chapman and Grimes lead UAB against the UTEP vs. Marshall winner in the quarterfinals of the C-USA Tourney on Thursday. Opening tip is slated for 1:30 p.m. CT.
