BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB senior guard Amber Jones has been named to the 2013 Conference-USA All-Academic Team, as announced by the league office on Thursday.
Jones, who boasts a 3.67 GPA in exercise science, picks up her second academic award in 2013. In January, she was named to the Capital One All-Academic District Four team.
“Amber is a great role model for the rest of our student-athletes,” UAB head coach Audra Smith said. “I am really proud of her and what she has accomplished both on and off the court. She is someone that will be successful in anything she decides to do in life.”
The Town Creek, Ala., native is UAB’s leading scorer with 13.3 points per game this season. She is one of 25 Blazers to score over 1,000 points in a career with her 1,478 points – the 10th-most in school history.
During her four years with the program, Jones has also been heavily involved in the community with organizations such as the Birmingham YMCA, Ronald McDonald House and Lakeshore Foundation. She has also been heavily active with the McWane Center Mini Camps for Children and the Miracle League of Gardendale, Ala.
Following graduation, Jones plans to pursue a doctorate of physical therapy degree.
