Oliver serves as recruiting coordinator for UAB, and the Blazers' November 2011 signing class was rated as the 13th-best among non-BCS programs by ESPN HoopGurlz.
Additionally, Oliver's wide range of duties at UAB include contributing to scouting reports and coaching the guards. The former University of Richmond standout plays an integral role in the development of UAB's offensive and defensive strategy.
Oliver has helped UAB to three consecutive winning seasons entering the 2012-13 campaign and an average of 18.7 wins per year during that stretch. He has helped coach the Blazers to top-3 finishes in the Conference USA race in the past six seasons.
He has been a part of two postseason berths -- a 2007 WNIT second round appearance and the 2011 Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) title. The WBI crown capped a 20-15 season for the Blazers, marking their first 20-win campaign in a decade.
Oliver came on board with Smith at UAB before the 2004-05 season. While he was at Virginia for the 2002-03 and 2003-04 campaigns, the Cavaliers went 30-30 overall, including an appearance in the 2003 NCAA Midwest Regional.
Before joining the Virginia staff, Oliver spent the 2001-02 season as an assistant coach at Western Kentucky, helping the Hilltopper women to a 16-14 record and a second-place finish in the East Division of the Sun Belt Conference, en route to a WNIT berth.
The Faison, N.C., native graduated from Richmond in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in speech communication. A four-year letterwinner for the Spiders, Oliver served as team captain for two seasons and earned team defensive player-of-the-year honors in 1996 and 1997. As a senior, he led Richmond to the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament championship and was named tourney MVP.
Following graduation, Oliver served as camp coordinator for the Debbie Ryan Basketball Camps while substitute teaching for the Charlottesville City Schools for three years. Additionally, Oliver was the head coach of the UVa women's basketball club team for the 2001 season, guiding the squad to a 24-5 record as well as the East Coast Division Regular Season and Tournament championships.
Oliver and his wife, Andrea, were married on June 2, 2007 in Birmingham, Ala. The couple has twin boys, Daryl Jr. and John Robert, born in January 2009, and a second set of twins, Aidan Parker (boy) and Averi Jewel (girl), born in January 2011.
