Men's Tennis Opens C-USA Championship Play Friday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB men's tennis team will begin play Friday in the 2013 Conference USA Men's Tennis Championship at Memphis, Tenn.

The Blazers (15-10, 1-2 C-USA) are the No. 7 seed in the tournament and will play their quarterfinal round match against the host Memphis Tigers (11-7, 1-0 C-USA), seeded second and ranked No. 35 nationally this week in the latest ITA Rankings.

Friday's match is set to start at 2:00 p.m. CT at the Dunavant-Wellford Tennis Center. Two other quarterfinal matches (No. 9 seed East Carolina vs. No. 1 Tulsa and No. 5 seed Old Dominion vs. No. 4 SMU) will precede the Blazers/Tigers' matchup. Rice, the No. 6 seed, will face No. 3 seed Tulane at 2:00 p.m. in the final quarterfinal match.

UAB and Memphis squared off a week ago in Memphis with the Tigers winning, 4-0. The Blazers' last action came on Saturday as they defeated South Alabama, 4-1. Memphis also played its last match against South Alabama, downing the Jaguars, 4-0, last Sunday afternoon.

The winners of Friday's matches will advance to semifinal round play on Saturday. The championship match is scheduled for noon on Sunday.
