BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB men's tennis team is seeded seventh and will face the No. 2 seed and host Memphis Tigers in the Blazers' first match this week at the 2013 Conference USA Championship.
The Blazers (15-10, 1-2) will be playing the No. 36-ranked Tigers (11-7, 1-0) for the second time in less than a week when the teams square off Friday at 2:00 p.m. CT. UAB dropped a 4-0 decision to Memphis last Friday before rebounding the next day with a 4-1 victory over South Alabama.
The tournament will open Thursday with No. 8-seeded UCF facing No. 9-seeded East Carolina. The match will be played Thursday at 2 p.m. with the winner advancing to face top-seeded Tulsa, Friday, at 10 a.m.
Also being played Friday at 10 a.m. will be No. 4 seed SMU vs. No. 5 seed Old Dominion. The 2 p.m. matches on Friday will feature UAB/Memphis match as well as the match between No. 3 seed Tulane vs. No. 6 seed Rice.
The Saturday semifinals will both be played at noon and the championship match, with the Conference USA tournament automatic bid into the NCAA tournament field, will be played at noon, Sunday.
In last year's C-USA Championship, UAB defeated Tulane (4-1) in quarterfinal round play before falling to No. 1 seed Tulsa, 4-1.
