BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB senior David Zimmerman has been named the Conference USA Men's Tennis Player-of-the-Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Zimmerman, from Waldronn, Germany, picked up the league's weekly honor after winning a pair of matches at No. 1 singles in straight sets over the weekend, both over Conference USA opponents. Zimmerman downed Matt Frost of Southern Miss, 6-2, 6-3, on Friday before defeating Tulane's Idan Mark, 6-4, 6-3, Saturday in New Orleans.
Zimmerman has now compiled a singles record of 13-5 after posting a 6-1, 6-2 win Tuesday over Winthrop's Dylan Comerford.
Zimmerman has also teamed with fellow senior Tom Puetz at No. 1 doubles this season and the duo has put together a record of 9-7.
Zimmerman and the Blazers will face a stiff challenge Wednesday afternoon when No. 75 Georgia State comes to Birmingham for a 2:00 dual match.
Zimmerman is expected to face the Panthers' Victor Valente at No. 1 singles. Valente is 11-2 in singles and is currently ranked No. 67 in the latest ITA rankings.
Valente and Lucas Santa Ana are ranked 38th in the most recent ITA doubles rankings and are currently 12-0 at No. 1 doubles.
