BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB men's tennis team will take its seven-match win streak on the road this weekend when the Blazers travel to play Conference USA matches against Southern Miss and Tulane.
The Blazers (9-6, 0-0 C-USA) will take on the Golden Eagles on Friday at 1 p.m. at the USM Courts before moving on to New Orleans to meet the Green Wave Saturday at 1 p.m.
Southern Miss comes into the match with a 10-4 overall record. The Golden Eagles are 0-1 in league play, a 5-2 loss to Tulane. USM defeated New Orleans and Alcorn State, both by 7-0 scores, last Saturday in its most recent play.
The Green Wave is 5-4 in duals overall and 1-1 in C-USA action. Tulane downed the College of Charleston, 6-1, on Tuesday to claim its fifth win.
UAB has been idle since last Sunday when it capped off a successful weekend with a 6-1 win over Jacksonville State and a 5-0 victory over Belmont. The Blazers were also winners on Friday last week as they took care of Nicholls State (4-0) and Lipscomb (7-0).
Senior David Zimmerman and junior Chris Helliar come into the weekend with the best singles records for the Blazers. Zimmerman has a 10-5 mark and has seven singles matches in a row at the No. 1 position. Helliar has reeled off eight consecutive wins in singles play at No. 3 and 4 to improve his season record to a team-best 11-4.
