UAB Men’s Tennis Hits the Road for ETSU, Georgia State

Head Coach Derek Tarr and the Blazers look to remain undefeated against a tough road slate.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men’s tennis team (4-0) hits the road for its first road swing of its 2017 slate as it heads to Johnson City, Tenn., to face ETSU and Georgia State. On Friday, Feb. 17 the Blazers face ETSU before concluding their trip on Saturday, Feb. 18 against Georgia State.

UAB Falls to No. 66 Georgia State
The UAB men’s tennis team dropped its second match of the MT Spring Showcase, 4-2, to No. 66 Georgia State.


Last time vs. ETSU
In 2016, the 63rd-ranked ETSU men’s tennis team defeated UAB, 5-2, in Birmingham. Now-senior Eric Komati was the lone Blazer to win in singles action, in three sets over currently ranked No. 88 David Biosca. Komati also helped the Blazers secure the doubles point with a win on court three with Stepan Vancurik.

Also in neutral site action in 2016, the No. 66 Georgia State men’s tennis team defeated UAB 4-1 in Murfreesboro. The Blazers’ lone point came from then-senior Mitchell Martell.

Our matches with ETSU and Georgia State will be very challengeing and our first big test of the season. ETSU is a legitimate top-50 team and Georgia State is a high quality opponent.

Blazers in 2017
On the season, nine Blazers remain undefeated in singles action, including freshman Tim Dollman and senior Eric Komati, who are both 4-0. The Blazers hold a 20-3 (.870) record in singles action, while boasting an 11-1 (.917) mark in doubles play. In doubles, UAB has debuted eight different tandems, with seven remaining undefeated. On court one, UAB has seen both Dollman/Gonzlez and Coetzee/Komati link up, with both pairs going 2-0.

UAB has outscored its opponents 24-3 in the Blazers first four matches of 2017.
