BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB men's tennis team will open its 2013 dual season this weekend with three matches in two days as the Blazers take on a trio of opponents at Tallahassee, Fla.
Matches will be played at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on the Florida State campus.
UAB, ranked No. 73 in the preseason ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) poll, will begin play Saturday with a dual at 11:00 a.m. ET against Florida A&M. Later in the day at approximately 3:30 ET, the Blazers will take the courts for the second time when they go against host and 32nd-ranked Florida State. On Sunday, UAB will play Florida Gulf Coast in a 10:00 a.m. ET match.
"I think our guys are ready to get on the court and play," said UAB head coach Derek Tarr. "We've done a lot of running in preparation of the season, so I think our conditioning is good starting the season."
One obstacle Tarr and the Blazers have faced this week has been all the inclement weather that has covered Birmingham. "We haven't had nearly as much practice time as we would have liked," Tarr said. "We're facing some quality competition and will definitely get tested for our first matches of the season."
