BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- UAB senior Chris Helliar has played his way into the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national rankings, the organization has announced.

Helliar, who had an outstanding fall as he compiled a record of 16-2 in singles play, is listed at No. 88 in the first set of national rankings since the preseason poll came out in early September.

Helliar, a native of Bournemouth, England, reached the semifinal round of the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships to cap off a fall in which he defeated three nationally-ranked players.

The highest-ranked player Helliar defeated was No. 58 Eric Johnson of Southern California. Helliar defeated the Trojan in the qualifying round of the ITA All-American Championships.

Helliar started his stellar fall season by winning a singles title at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships. Helliar finished 6-0 at the event in Athens, Ga.

Helliar's only two losses in the fall came at the hands of current No. 15-ranked Nik Scholtz of Ole Miss and No. 50 Austin Powell of NC State.
