TULSA, Okla. ----- Chris Helliar and Rafael Rondino both claimed straight-set victories Saturday in their first round singles matches at the 2013 ITA All-American Tennis Championships.
Helliar defeated Army's Caison Best, 6-3, 6-2, while Rondino downed Robert Dudley of Clemson, 6-1, 7-6 (3).
Helliar will now take on Markus Kerner of Tennessee Sunday while Rondino will meet Joel Rubio of UTSA.
The ITA All-American is being held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus.
Pre-qualifying matches began Saturday with qualifying matches following on Monday, Sept. 30. A field of 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams will then compete in the main draw on Oct. 3.
Singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive an automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Nov. 7-10, held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, NY.
