TULSA, Okla. ---- UAB captured the doubles point but came up on the short end in singles as No. 67-ranked and second-seeded Tulane defeated the Blazers, 4-1, here Friday at the Conference USA Men's Tennis Championship.

The Blazers (13-9) won at No. 1 and 2 doubles to take a 1-0 lead on the Green Wave (14-8). Tulane came back with wins in straight sets at No. 2 and 3 singles, and then won key three-set matches at No. 1 and 6 to clinch the victory.

The remaining two singles matches -- at No. 4 and 5 -- were both close when they were halted.

Chris Helliar and Mitchell Martell were impressive in their No. 1 doubles victory over Tulane's 47th-ranked tandem of Dominik Koepfer and Jao Chi-San, 8-2. The Blazers' Lucas Dirube and Donovan McSeveney gave UAB its other doubles win as they edged Takuma Ohashi and Sebastian Rey, 8-7 (1).

The Green Wave salvaged one in doubles as Alex Van Cott and Ian Van Cott downed UAB's Luiz Felipe Pinto and Rafael Rondino, 8-3, at the No. 3 position.

In singles, Rey notched the first win for Tulane with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles over Rondino. Jao made it 2-1 Green Wave with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 3 over the Blazers' Stepan Vancurik.
