BOISE, Idaho ----- The UAB men's tennis team won the doubles point and then swept singles play en route to a 7-0 victory over Utah State here Wednesday.
The Blazers, ranked No. 73 in this week's ITA rankings, improved their record to 11-3, while the Aggies fell to 4-8 on the season.
UAB grabbed a 1-0 lead on the strength of wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles. Danny Manlow and Daniel Moser were 8-1 winners at the No. 2 position over Andrew Whiting and Lenny Whiting, while Lucas Dirube and Chris Helliar took an 8-4 decision over Nate Ballam and Matt Sweet at No. 3.
In singles action, Manlow won at the No. 1 spot, outlasting Poslusny, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Zimmerman took a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 over Fritz, while Helliar won by a 6-2, 6-4 score at No. 3 singles over Fredrik Peterson.
At No. 4 singles, Moser defeated Lenny Whiting, 6-2, 6-4, with Puetz getting past Ballam at the No. 5 position, 7-5, 6-7, 10-6. James Gardner was the other Blazer to win in singles as he took a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Andrew Whiting at No. 6 singles.
UAB, which beat Nevada Tuesday, will remain in Boise the rest of the week as the Blazers take part in the Boise State Spring Break Classic. UAB's first action will come on Friday morning (10:00 a.m. MT) when the Blazers go against Utah.
