BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--UAB men's soccer players Karl Chester and Ian Svantesson were named to the final TopDrawerSoccer.com Top 100 Freshman List, the website announced on Monday.
Listed at No. 65, Chester scored five goals during his freshman campaign with the Green and Gold, including a pair of game winners against Conference USA foes Marshall and UCF. The Kathleen, Ga., native recorded 13 total points (5g, 3a), along with 30 shot attempts on the season, and was also named to the 2012 Conference USA All-Freshman Team.
Svantesson, listed at No. 97, recorded a pair of goals and three assists during the 2012 season. The Longwood, Fla., native recorded his first goal in the early-season matchup against Mercer, and also connected with the back of the net during the C-USA matchup at UCF. Svantesson was also named to the league's all-freshman team.
UAB earned an at-large bid to the 2012 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament and finished the season with a 10-8-2 record, and a 4-4 mark in conference action. The Blazers have recorded six tournament appearances in the last 14 years.
