Reed Matte was named to the 2012 Conference USA All-Academic Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-- UAB senior defender Reed Mattewas selected to the Conference USA Men's Soccer All-Academic Team, as voted on by the men's soccer sports information directors from around the league.
Matte maintains a GPA of 3.43 in anthropology, and was also a UAB Student-Athlete of the Week selection during the 2012 campaign.
The Birmingham, Ala., native was selected to the C-USA All Conference Second Team earlier in the week, and recorded three shot attempts in the Blazers' win over UCF in the Conference USA Championship quarterfinal on Wednesday.
On the season, Matte has logged 1,635 minutes on the pitch, second most on the team, and has also scored two goals, along with three assists for a total of seven points. He also recorded UAB's game winning goal in the 2-0 victory over Clemson on Sept. 20. UAB posted a 9-6-2 overall record through the regular season, and a 4-4 mark in Conference USA action. The Blazers face No. 2-seed Tulsa in the Conference USA Championship semifinal game on Friday at 7:30 p.m. CT.
