BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - UAB Men's soccer goalkeeper David Clemente has been named Conference USA's Defensive Player of the Week for his shutout of South Florida, Sunday. It is the second time he has earned the honor this season.
The Blazers shut out USF 2-0. Clemente recorded four saves, three of them in the second half as UAB scored both of its goals in the second period. The key saves came with UAB holding a 1-0 lead. Clemente saved two shots on goal within a 20-second time span. The first save was a kick-save. USF got the rebound and fired a shot from close-in which Clemente saved.
Clemente has two solo shutouts and one shared shutout this year. He had eight last year. However, only three teams have scored more than one goal in the Blazers 12 matches this season.
UAB is 8-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in C-USA. The Blazers have won four straight matches. They travel to face Memphis, Wednesday night.
