Men's Soccer No. 10 In Latest National Polls

Redshirt junior midfielder Alex Clay has three goals on the year.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second time in 2013, the UAB men’s soccer team cracked the top 10 of the two major national polls. UAB is currently ranked No. 10 in both the NSCAA/Continental Tire and Soccer America Poll, as announced on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

The Blazers were briefly ranked No. 8 in the country earlier in the season following its victory against defending national champion Indiana on Friday, Sept. 6. This marks the sixth straight week the Green and Gold have appeared in the national rankings. In addition, UAB is ranked first in the Midwest region for the first time this year.

Junior forward Diego Navarrete also earned some national recognition on Tuesday. The Santiago, Chile native was named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week for his performance against Florida Atlantic on Sunday, Oct. 6. Navarrete had eight points (two goals and a UAB-record four assists) against the Owls.

The UAB men’s soccer team will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 12 when it faces Old Dominion. The match is slated to begin at 6 p.m. CT in Norfolk, Va.
