UAB Travels To Take On Kentucky In C-USA Showdown

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB men's soccer team will look to snap a three-game losing skid when it travels to take on the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Lexington, Ky.

The contest marks the third road game over the last four contests for the Blazers (5-3-2, 0-1 C-USA). The lone home game for UAB over the stretch came this past Tuesday when it dropped the Conference USA opener against South Carolina, 1-0.

The Blazers are led by senior forward Babayele Sodade, who has a team-high 15 points on six goals and three assists. Freshman forward Diego Navarrete has four goals and one assist, while junior defender Mladen Lemez has accounted for three goals on the campaign. Senior goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski has saved 45 shots, which ranks among the league leaders, and owns a 1.06 goals against average.

 

 

Kentucky (7-6-1, 0-3) has been led offensively by sophomore forward Tyler Riggs and junior forward Matt Lodge. Riggs owns a team-high 22 points with nine goals and four assists, while Lodge has added 21 points on seven goals and seven assists. UK junior midfielder Charles Pettys has a goal and seven assists, while senior C.J. Tappel owns a goal and four assists. UK has also gotten two goals from seniors Josh Mulvany and Sam Brooks. In goal, sophomore Tyler Beadle has managed a 1.55 goals-against average with 33 saves in 12 games.

UK leads the all-time series with UAB, 4-3-1 but enter the game having lost two consecutive decisions to the Blazers. In the last meeting between the two teams, UAB posted a 2-1 win in Birmingham, Ala., getting goals from Sodade and Kofi Gyawu in the second half. Lodge got UK's lone goal in the game in the 87th minute, with Beadle charting three saves and Woszczynski saving three shots.
