BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The No. 20 UAB men's soccer team will host Mercer on Saturday night at West Campus Field. The match is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m.
The Blazers are looking to collect their fourth victory of the year, which would mark UAB's best start to a season since 2011. The Green and Gold were 4-0-2 through six matches two seasons ago.
Men's Soccer Among The Best In The Country
In the most recent NCAA statistical rankings, the UAB men's soccer team has one of the highest scoring offenses in the country. The Blazers are scoring at a clip of 2.20 goals per game, which is tied for 13th in Division I men's soccer.
In addition, the squad ranks 17th in the nation in points per game (6.40) and 21st in assists per game (2.00).
Individually, junior forward Diego Navarrete is one of the top scorers in the country. Navarrete is ranked 13th in total goals (4) and 17th in goals per game (0.80).
Redshirt junior midfielder Alex Clay is tied for 15th in the nation with three total assists on the year. In addition, he ranks 23rd in the country in assists per game (0.80).
Blazers Host Annual Home Tournament
This past weekend, the UAB men's soccer team hosted the 2013 UAB "Soccer for a Cure" Classic. Charlotte, East Tennessee State, and Memphis joined the Blazers as the tournament's participants.
Memphis was the 2013 tournament champion after recording a scoreless draw against East Tennessee State on Friday, Sept. 13 and scoring a 2-1 victory against then-No. 21 Charlotte.
The Green and Gold registered a tie and loss in its two matches. On Friday, UAB played Charlotte to a 0-0 tie. Two days later, East Tennessee State handed the Blazers their first defeat of the season.
