BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The 18th-ranked UAB men's soccer team will host No. 8 Indiana, the 2012 national champions, in its first home match of the season on Friday, Sept. 6. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at West Campus Field.

Students are encouraged to come out and support their fellow classmates as the Blazers take on the Hoosiers. In addition, students will have a chance to win a free pair of Beats headphones.

Currently, the Green and Gold hold a 24-8-2 mark in their first match at home in the program's 34-year history. The squad owns a three-game win streak in home openers, having not lost its first match of the season at West Campus Field since 2009.

The Indiana match will be a special one for head coach Mike Getman. Getman starred for the Hoosiers from 1977-81, helping the team to two trips to the NCAA Division I National Championship. He also began his coaching career there, serving as an assistant coach from 1984-86.

Blazers Open 2013 With Two Wins at VCU Nike Classic
This past weekend, the UAB men's soccer team opened the 2013 season at the VCU Nike Classic in Richmond, Va. The Blazers secured a victory against then-No. 24 VCU on Friday, Aug. 30, before defeating High Point, 5-1, on Sunday, Sept. 1. In Richmond, the squad tallied nine goals in two games, the most in a two-game span since 2005.

Junior Diego Navarrete led the way for the Green and Gold at the VCU Nike Classic. Navarrete recorded seven points on three goals and one assist. Sophomore Freddy Ruiz tallied three goals, as well.

Men's Soccer Earns National Recognition
For the first time in 2013, the UAB men's soccer team was ranked in the national polls. The Blazers have appeared in the national rankings at least once 18 of the past 20 seasons.

The Green and Gold were ranked No. 18 in the most recent NSCAA/Continental Tire Poll, while they were No. 23 in the Soccer America Rankings.

In addition, redshirt senior Patrick Huang was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week for his performances at the VCU Nike Classic. Huang registered two goals and an assist in Richmond, leading the team to two victories.
