BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men’s soccer team will host the Atlanta Silverbacks of the North American Soccer League (NASL) in an exhibition match on Friday, March 21 at 7 p.m. at West Campus Field.
Atlanta plays in the second tier of professional soccer in the United States. Last season, the Silverbacks advanced to the NASL Soccer Bowl, the league’s championship match. American soccer great and current Fox Sports analyst Eric Wynalda is the head coach of the Atlanta Silverbacks.
UAB is coming off a 12-5-1 campaign in 2013. The Blazers ranked as high as No. 8 in the nation last season, as well. The Green and Gold return their top-three scorers from 2013 in Freddy Ruiz, Alex Clay, and Diego Navarrete.
The Birmingham Hammers will serve as the host for the exhibition match. Funds raised at the game will go to the Birmingham Hammers’ efforts to bring professional soccer to the city of Birmingham.
