BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--UAB men's soccer head coach Mike Getman announced the team's spring schedule on Monday, which features five dates at West Campus Field.
The Blazers will kick off the spring slate on the road at Memphis on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT. Last season, the Tigers topped UAB, 3-1, in the squads' regular season finale.
"We open with a tough game at long-time rival Memphis," head coach Mike Getman said. "This will be a big challenge for the first game, but it will give us a great sense of where we are to start the new year."
UAB's other road match for the spring will be at the Atlanta Silverbacks on Saturday, March 16 at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT.
At home, the Green and Gold will host Lipscomb (March 9, 2 p.m. CT) and Montevallo (April 9, 7 p.m. CT). Last season, the Blazers took wins over both schools, with a 5-2 exhibition win over Montevallo on Aug. 16, and a 3-0 shutout over Lipscomb on Sept. 22.
UAB's home slate also includes an all day seven-on-seven tournament on Saturday, April 6, and an intersquad game on Saturday, April 13 at 2 p.m.
The Blazers will round out the spring schedule with an alumni game on Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m. CT.
"Overall this schedule will include a lot of good quality games that will challenge our players to be even better," Getman said. "The spring season is a chance for us to learn and develop. There is no better way than to play quality competition. "
UAB earned an at-large bid to the 2012 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament and finished the season with a 10-8-2 record, and a 4-4 mark in conference action. The Blazers have recorded six tournament appearances in the last 14 years.
