NASHVILLE, Tenn.--The UAB men's soccer team dropped its final match of the regular season Wednesday evening, 3-1, to Memphis at the Mike Rose Stadium.
The Blazers (9-6-2, 4-4-0 C-USA) and Tigers (7-6-3, 3-2-2 C-USA) were even on shots after the first half of the match with six apiece, while Memphis took an early lead with a goal in the 38th minute by Chandler Gagnon.
UAB equalized in the 77th minute when junior midfielder Alex Clay played the ball up the field and fed it to senior midfielder Kofi Gyawu, who fired it past the Memphis keeper for his first goal of the season.
Memphis retook the lead in the 83rd minute by a goal by Benjamin Ciosanski, and scored its final goal of the game in the 86th minute when Mark Sherrod netted a feed from teammate Jordan Johnson.
UAB will learn the identity of its first postseason opponent following the conclusion of the final regular season matches on Sunday. The 2012 Conference USA Tournament begins on Wednesday, Nov. 7 with the first of two games set to kick off at 5 p.m. CT at Regions Park in Hoover, Ala.
