BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Taylor Eyster and Lee Hodges, both natives of Alabama, have each signed their National Letters of Intent and will join the UAB men’s golf team for the 2014-15 season, head coach Alan Murray announced on Monday.
“They both come from great families, really nice people,” said Murray. “They are bright kids with great attitudes. They really want to play for UAB, which is encouraging when you talk to kids who really want to be part of your program. I’m excited to have them come on board.”
Eyster, a local product out of Mountain Brook High School, has had a decorated junior career. He won the 2013 Vestavia Junior Classic and 2013 Canebrake Junior Classic. In addition, he finished in second place at the 2012 Alabama State Junior Amateur.
Hodges, an Elkmont, Ala. native, has played at Ardmore High School for the past three years. He was the Daily Preps Boys Golfer of the Year in both 2012 and 2013. Hodges also scored a top-10 finish at the 2013 Alabama State Amateur.
“Like I said, they fit what we are trying to do,” added Murray. “The guys that are in here are hungry and want to work. We are lucky. We are sad to lose our three seniors, but I think we’ve got kids that will be just as good as where our seniors when they came in.”
The UAB men’s golf team will open the spring season at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. The three-round event will run from Saturday, Feb. 15 – Sunday, Feb. 16.
