BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB senior men’s golfer Wilson McDonald was named the Conference USA Men’s Golfer of the Week, conference officials announced on Wednesday. This marks the second time this season that a Blazer has garnered this award.
McDonald collected his first career individual title at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, the Blazers’ third tournament of the 2013-14 season. The Mobile, Ala. native recorded a 202 (-8) for the three-round event in Vestavia Hills, Ala.
The senior golfer registered the best tournament of his career, setting personal best 18, 36, and 54-hole scores. His 54-hole score of 202 (-8) is tops on the team this year.
Through three events, McDonald leads UAB with a stroke average of 69.0 and seven rounds at or under par. His lowest round came in the first round of the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, when he shot a 65 (-5).
UAB will be back in action on Monday, Oct. 21 at the Georgetown Intercollegiate, its final event of the fall season.
