BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB senior men’s golfer Sam Love was named the Conference USA Men’s Golfer of the Week, conference officials announced on Wednesday. This marks the second time Love has earned this distinction in his collegiate career.
Last week, Love finished in third place at the Blazers’ first tournament of the 2013-14 season, the Topy Cup in Tanagura, Japan. The Trussville, Ala. native registered 204 (-6) for the three-round event, finishing as the top participant from an American university.
Love had the best tournament of his career, registering his best 18, 36, and 54-hole scores of his collegiate career. His 36-hole score of 132 (-8) ranks second in program history, while his 18 and 54-hole scores rank seventh and 10th, respectively.
Through one event, Love holds a stroke average of 68.0 for the season. His lowest round of the year came in the first round of the Topy Cup when he fired a 65 (-5).
UAB will be back in action at its annual home tournament, the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate hosted by Graeme McDowell, from Monday, Sept. 30 – Tuesday, Oct. 1.
