Dunne Seventh At International European Amateur

Paul Dunne finished eight strokes behind champion Ashley Chesters.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Rising junior Paul Dunne finished in a tie for seventh place at the International European Amateur Championship on Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Real Club de Golf in El Prat, Spain. Dunne shot a 292 (+4) for the four-round event, eight strokes behind champion Ashley Chesters.

The Greystones, Ireland native made his push towards the top of the leaderboard on the final day of play. Dunne recorded a final-round 71 (-1) on Saturday. He was one of three players to shoot under par on the last day of competition.

UAB has had great success this summer on the golf course. Rising redshirt senior Thomas Sutton defeated classmate Sam Love in the Alabama Match Play Championship on Saturday. Dunne captured the East of Ireland Amateur Open Championship in June, while Love lost in a playoff at the Southern Amateur in July. Currently, rising senior Wilson McDonald is playing at the U.S. Amateur Championship. McDonald is three-over par after one round of play at the Country Club in Brookline, Mass.
