SPRING, Texas - Rising senior men's golfer Wilson McDonald finished in fourth place at the U.S. Amateur qualifying event at the Woodlands Country Club to qualify for the 2013 U.S. Amateur Championship on Tuesday, June 23 in Spring, Texas. The Mobile, Ala. product recorded a 139 (-5) for the two rounds of play.

McDonald fired an opening-round 66 (-6) to put himself in a solid position to qualify for the U.S. Amateur. He recorded a 73 (+1) in the second and final round of qualifying to secure the final spot at the Woodlands Country Club qualifier.

"I am obviously pretty excited," stated McDonald. "I am really looking forward to competing in one of the biggest competitions put on by the USGA."

The Blazers have had their fair share of success this summer in amateur play. Earlier this month, rising senior Sam Love tied for first place at the Southern Amateur Championship. McDonald finished in 20th place at the Southern Amateur.

"I am hugely delighted and extremely proud of Wilson," head coach Alan Murray said. "It is really difficult to qualify for the U.S. Amateur and I am extremely proud of his achievement. He has been one of the rocks of this team and no one deserves this more."

The 2013 U.S. Amateur Championship will be played at the Country Club in Brookline, Mass. from August 12 - 18. The championship is the leading annual golf event in the United States for amateurs.
