Paul Dunne won the Woburn final qualifying to earn a spot at the 2014 Open Championship.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Rising senior Paul Dunne of the UAB men’s golf team earned individual medalist honors at the Woburn final qualifying, earning an invite to the 2014 Open Championship at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Merseyside, England from July 17-20. Dunne finished the two-round event in 134 strokes (-10) on Tuesday.
Coming off a victorious showing at the 2014 Palmer Cup, the Greystones, Ireland native went right back out to the links. Dunne carded back-to-back 67 (-5) rounds en route to a first-place finish at the Woburn final qualifying.
Dunne becomes the second member of the 2013-14 UAB men’s golf team to participate in one of golf’s four majors in 2014. Former UAB golfer Sam Love recently played in the 2014 U.S. Open in Pinehurst, N.C.
The 2014 Open Championship begins on Thursday, July 17 at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club. Currently, Dunne is one of five amateurs in the field for golf’s oldest major.
