June 23, 2010

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Former Blazer Graeme McDowell's recent U.S. Open Championship will be highlighted on all four Birmingham television stations on Wednesday night's newscasts.

UAB head men's golf coach Alan Kaufman, who was at Pebble Beach Golf Links for the first three days of last weekend's historic title for McDowell, did extensive interviews this afternoon with the four Birmingham TV affiliates.

McDowell, a two-time All-American at UAB and the 2002 Fred Haskins Award winner, claimed his first major championship with a four-day total of even-par 284 at the famed seaside course. The Northern Ireland native held off some of the best players in the world in Sunday's final round to become the first European in 40 years to win the U.S. Open.

Watch tonight for coverage of McDowell's win on each of the local newscasts.
