June 11, 2017

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Rising senior Taylor Eyster won the 101st Alabama Men’s State Amateur Championship in a three-hole playoff Sunday afternoon at Bent Brook Golf Club.

Eyster shot 14-under for the tournament, as did Turk Pettit and the two would venture into a three-hole playoff where Eyster finished one stroke ahead to claim the title. Eyster carded a one under in the playoff while Pettit was even par.

“My game was in sync all week and my short game helped me out a lot coming down the stretch,” Eyster said. “It is a huge honor to have my name on the same trophy with all the great players that have previously won this tournament.”

The victory for Eyster marks the third time in four years a UAB golfer has won this event as Will Cannon won back-to-back titles in 2014 and 2015.

On the par 72 course, Eyster shot in the red every round (68-70-68-68) and carded a 274 overall.

Other Blazers who also participated in the event included Scott Bryan who tied for fifth (-10), John Hayden who tied for eighth (-9) and William Walker who tied for 18th (-5).
