Dunne Earns Academic All-America Honors

Junior Paul Dunne became the second UAB men's golfer to earn Academic All-America accolades.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior Paul Dunne of the UAB men’s golf team was named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Men’s At-Large Third Team, CoSIDA announced on Thursday. Dunne joins Ty Auret (1998-99) as the only Academic All-Americans in UAB men’s golf program history.

Dunne was the Blazers’ top golfer for the 2013-14 season. The Greystones, Ireland native owned a 71.5 stroke average in 39 rounds played. Dunne led the team in percentage of rounds counted (90), rounds at or under par (20), scoring differentials (2.51), top-five finishes (5), top-10 finishes (6), top-20 finishes (10), tournaments at or under par (5), and wins (2).

For his efforts on the course, Dunne was named to the 2014 All-Conference USA First Team, 2014 Division PING I All-Southeast Region Team, and earned 2014 Conference USA Golfer of the Year accolades. Dunne also was selected to the 2014 Palmer Cup, becoming the third golfer in program history to play in the event.

Off the links, Dunne excels in the classroom, as well. The business finance major owns a 3.83 cumulative GPA. Dunne is a three-time Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll honoree and has collected the C-USA Academic Medal twice in his collegiate career. The junior also was named to the 2014 Conference USA All-Academic Team.
